The Dominican is situated in the centre of Brussels, behind the theatre of La Monnaie and a stone's through from the Grand Place. Combining an exceptional design with remarkable comfort, The Dominican makes the most of its unique situation and the building's rich past.
In this rich historical context of gracious architecture, The Dominican tries hard to reconcile the traditional side of Brussels with an ultramodern design. The open spaces and the bedrooms were created and fitted with care and attention to detail by the celebrated Dutch design duo FG Stijl. The majestic arches of the hotel reveal traces of the dominican monastery that occupied the site in the 15th Century and later housed the renowned French painter Jacques-Louis David. The original façade of the monastery has been preserved and integrated into the new building.Haven of peace
The hotel is a haven of peace and tranquillity in the heart of the new seat of government of Europe, a place that naturally blends the old and new Europe. The high ceilings and the galleries that lend the hotel its appealing character allude to its monastic past dating back to the 15th Century. 'Inside the visitor is amazed by the level of detail and spectacular intimacy, according to the style of the hotel, with its open spaces and high ceilings. The monastic corridor paved with authentic Belgian stone, provides a medieval elegance. The Grand Lounge
The Grand Lounge, at the heart of the hotel, with its high wrought iron windows, recalls the decadent spirit of the Europe of old, while attracting, with its latest design, a modern style-conscious cliental.Bedrooms and suites
The 150 bedrooms and suites surround a peaceful interior courtyard. Each room is unique in style, beautifully marrying a contemporary design with luxurious textiles to provide a relaxing comfort in an abbey setting. The concept behind the refurbishment of the Dominican was to create a haven of tranquillity, a shelter from the urban hustle and bustle. With this in mind, all rooms were centred around a peaceful interior courtyard overlooking La Monnaie on one side and the interior court on the other. At the Dominican, you will feel right at home. Each of the bedrooms, individually created, is an eclectic mix of warm tones, designed furniture, sumptuous fabrics and all with the emphasis on comfort. Luxurious finishing touches such as granite and the special fittings such as walk-in showers, make the bathrooms a real oasis of well-being.
