The big European festival Sziget Festival will be back from the 10th to the 16th of August in down-town Budapest. Since 1992, it's become, little by little, the event not to miss for music lovers. This edition 18 tents will be put up to welcome music styles and artists from all over the world.
This year more than 400 000 festival-goers will come together for a varied and quality playlist, put together by twenty different artistic directors. For a couple of years now, French bands have been more and more present on the Hungarian stages which in turn has increased the French audience (11 000 in 2008).In the past
The festival was created in the beginning of the nineties by Péter Müller and Karoly Gerendai, respectively local rock star and programmer, and dedicated to the students of the Budapest University. The first edition gathered hundreds of young Hungarians around a common love of music but mostly around a common need for freedom of speech and expression in a democratically young country. The word gets out and the festival attracts more and more young people from neighbouring countries looking for freedom and peace in a conflicted Eastern Europe.
