For some people the root of all evil, yet for many indicative of personal freedom, cars will stay in their garages and off the city streets on Sunday 18 September 2011.
This is the famous annual "Sunday without cars" when cyclists, roller-bladers and skateboarders take-over the streets located within the 160 km2 of the Brussels region, except the tunnels (closed for safety reasons...) and on condition that people respect the highway code... for many don't bother! Be careful if you take to the tarmac, for public transport services - free that day - still run, and emergency vehicles are also allowed to operate (at maximum 30 km/h). Special exemptions can, of course, be obtained from the local administrations concerned.
