The Flemish Brabant is, along with the Walloon Brabant, the only Belgian province with its own borders.
The region is, however, limited by another sort of barrier: the linguistic barrier. By this, we mean the border that splits the country's two main linguistic communities as set out in the laws of 8 November 1962 and 2 August 1993. This divide, which runs from east to west, separates the Dutch speakers from the French speakers, hence the Flemish Brabant and the Walloon Brabant.
