Angélique Kidjo @ AB
The voice of Benin, a grand lady from a small West African Country. Angélique Kidjo now quite at home in Paris and New York, nominated for a Grammy on various occasions, ambassadress for Unicef, and still of course a fantastic songstress.

She's already performed with Cassandra Wilson, Bill Laswell, Dave Matthews... but for 'Djin Djin', her latest CD (on EMI) she could count on (hold on): Alicia Keys, Branford Marsalis, Joss Stone, Peter Gabriel, Amadou & Mariam, Carlos Santana, Ziggy Marley, Amp Fiddler... and all that under the leadership of Tony Visconti in the legendary Electric Ladyland studio (see also: Jimi Hendrix). The cocktail becomes even more impressive with texts in French and English plus languages from Benin, Nigeria, Togo, and indeed covers of Gimme Shelter (Rolling Stones) and Lonlon (alias Ravel's Bolero). World music becomes universal fusion music with Angélique Kidjo. De Standaard already heard 'funky afro-pop with a world saving message.' Djin Djin!
