This year's theme is Mini Maxi, focusing on two major musical componants of the 20th Century: American minimalism and the Belgian ensemble Maximalist.
Through 50 concerts in 15 different locations (Ancienne Belgique, Halles de Schaerbeek, Bozar…), Ars Musica will show musical pieces such as "the Cayon" by Philip Glass, "Chairman Dances" by John Adams or "Frontières" by the duet Zanési-Rebotini.
Mini - Maxi
Minimalism, which uses repetition as a composition technique, appeared in the USA in the 1960's thanks to composers like Steve Reich and Philip Glass.
Maximalist ! is a Belgian band created at the beginning of the 1980's by Thierry De Mey et de Peter Vermeersch. It calls itself an esthetic inversion to what can represent American minimalism.
Ars Musica
In respect to its tradition, the festival will this year again honor younger generations of composers.
One of its targets is to change the perception of the classical music of today. Ars Musica wishes to develop a larger audience for a music who often has difficulties finding a right audience. Interaction with the public will also be very present thanks to several master classes and networking events.
