While the marmot is putting the piece of chocolate in the silver foil, a full army of little hands are working to make your ski trip amazing. Restaurants, members of ski patrols, migrant workers,... BrusselsLive has pushed some doors to meet those men and women behind the scene.

Jean-Luc - Instructor at ESF

We cannot ignore people wearing the red jacket of ESF. Jean-Luc tells us about Portes du Soleil's geography: Les Portes du Soleil are such a big croissant. With Avoriaz in the middle, Gets and Châtel in the extremities. Sectors located out of the croissant are Swiss and the inside ones are French So easy to understand dear Jean-Luc!

The Venning Family - Restaurateurs at Gets

A true success story! The Venning Family has joined the English colony at the Gets after having been seduced by the Grand Ourse in 2006. This altitudinal restaurant was for sale at this time. Before even having taken off the advert sign, the Venning's had already started to think about a thousand things! Few seasons later, here is a real altitudinal restaurant offering an amazing view on the Mont Blanc's mountains. And because Venning's are not like other people, the family's chief shows us his last proudness: The restaurant is open in the evening on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for a 5 courses candles dinner. Okay, nothing unusual isn't it? But yes there is something crazy! What? You don't see it? Then read the last part of the text again and get ready to be surprised! To reach this restaurant, at altitude over 1750 meters by night and to go back to the village, guests use our special track. The spicy touch of your evening! Sticky Toffee Pudding lovers may even smell a taste of English cuisine, so far from their island! More info on www.lagrandeourse.eu

Edouard - Conducteur de dameuse à Châtel

By night, where people are asleep, Edouard and his coworkers take care of the slopes. If the weather is fine, no snow during the night, we start working when the slopes are closed. If snow is expected, we start working at 2.30 am in order to be ready for the opening. This job is not a joke. As a public roads worker, I was used to drive those kind of big engine. More experienced workers had teach me how to use this engine and they also had taught me about the ground. Even with this 450-horse engine, bumping against a stone would breack the machine. Edouard offered us a ride for a few minutes, buckle up!

Colin - Brewer at the Gets

With our snowsuit off, the first things we saw were those brewer containers. As huge beers fans, we pushed the doors of this Irish pub and met Colin, an American mirco-brewer who loves in Les Portes du Soleil. Here I brew 3 beers: Avalanche, Gétoise Rua. Rua is served warm or cold, old way style. To create my recipes, I'm inspired by the Kwak. Hey, you Belgian people make the best beers ever!. More info on www.lesgets.com.
