We are delighted to welcome back the outstanding Norwegian cellist Truls Mørk. On this occasion he is joined by the talented young Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili.
We open with Beethoven, who freed the cello - the "human voice" among the strings - to become an independent solo instrument. Rakhmaninov takes things a step further in a deeply Romantic work. Shostakovich, finally, sets out to reconcile tradition and innovation in his sonata.
