We are delighted to welcome back the outstanding Norwegian cellist Truls Mørk. On this occasion he is joined by the talented young Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili.
We open with Beethoven, who freed the cello - the "human voice" among the strings - to become an independent solo instrument. Rakhmaninov takes things a step further in a deeply Romantic work. Following the piano in 2010 and the singing in 2011, it is now the violin turn of to be given place of honour in the magnificent halls of the Conservatoire de Musique of Brussels. This edition of the Competition to be devoted to Queen Elisabeth's favourite instrument will allow us to discover a new generation of young violinists...
