How can dance, choreography, performance, and architecture create a new kind of space together? During Performatik19, choreographer and Kaaitheater artist-in-residence Radouan Mriziga will install a residency project at KANAL – Centre Pompidou. He is inviting dance and architecture students to share their knowledge and practice.

How can dance, choreography, performance, and architecture create a new kind of space together? During Performatik19, choreographer Radouan Mriziga will install a residency project at KANAL – Centre Pompidou. Using Bauhaus as a pedagogical model, he seeks to establish a contemporary educational practice that reformulates the models of space. He is inviting dance and architecture students to share their knowledge and practice. Projecting the resulting questions onto the surrounding workspace will create a new way of thinking and feeling space. Mriziga is thus building on his conviction that we can only think and act through a combination of body, mind, and intellect. • The choreographer and dancer Radouan Mriziga (°1985) studied dance in Marrakesh and Tunisia and continued his career at PARTS. Since 2014 he has been supported by Moussem Nomadic Arts Centre. From 2017 to 2021 he is an artist-in-residence at Kaaitheater.

Brussels is not wanting for modern and contemporary art, nor architecture. On the contrary, the capital is home to many institutions dedicated to the most diverse artistic disciplines. The only thing missing was a museum of modern and contemporary art and an architecture museum. Hence the KANAL Centre Pompidou project, located in the 35,000m² of the former Citroën garage, on place de l'Yser. Before the renovation works begin, they are scheduled to end in 2022/2023, the Kanal Foundation has decided to launch a pilot year on May 5, 2018. For 13 months, in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, the public will be able to discover this mythical building through several exhibitions, large installations, ten new creations by Brussels artists and a programme of live shows.
