Love. Hate. Debate.

Start a Conversation with the ING Collection

This is not an exhibition. And you are not just a visitor. You are invited to enter an open space for art where the artwork only exists through your eyes. It might be love at first sight when you are faced with a work or, conversely, it might shock, upset or even alienate you. The “Love.Hate.Debate Start a conversation with the ING Collection exhibition” pushes us to explore our feelings in response to art and look beyond our first impressions to start asking questions. About the work, ourselves and the world that surrounds us. Why do I relate to this work more than another? It’s beautiful, but why? What was the artist trying to say? Come and discover around 60 artworks in the ING collection, displayed in an innovative exhibition space that serves as a starting point for conversation and reflection. A fringe programme has been set up to give you a deeper understanding of our artworks. The aim of this major ING event is to invite people to discover contemporary art and make art accessible to all, in keeping with the original spirit of the art collector Baron Léon Lambert who founded ING’s Belgian collection. Free for all ING customers.

For over 40 years now, the bank has been staging exhibitions in its Brussels buildings, both at its headquarters on Avenue Marnix or at the Hotel Coudenberg on Place Royale (the ING Cultural Centre). In the course of the years the choice of themes for the exhibitions has evolved. The bank has moved on from resolutely contemporary and avant-garde shows, that would appeal to a few thousand visitors, to exhibitions of a more classical nature, which draw visitors in the tens of thousands. In other words, the principle of art for art's sake has given way to a more pragmatic approach to exhibitions, based on a desire to reach out to a wider audience. Latterly, the bank's artistic endeavours have been expanded through the support that the bank lends to events such as« Artbrussels »,, the contemporary art fair in Brussels, and « Prix de la Jeune Peinture » (The Young Artist's Prize), which is awarded every two years to a handful of talented young artists.
