East from West Screening programme by Ingel Vaikla

Hoe kan een visuele cultuur onze blik en onze meningen beïnvloeden? Met haar filmprogramma “East from West” nodigt Ingel Vaikla je uit om na te denken over de rol van beelden in de constructie van identiteiten, mensen en plaatsen. De geselecteerde films variëren van documentaire tot science fiction en behandelen ideeën over geheugen, socialistische geschiedenis en de kromme utopie van de moderniteit. Ontdek nieuwe manieren om na te denken over onze relatie met de gebouwde omgeving, onze faalangsten en het onbekende. Ingel Vaikla (1992, Estland) is beeldend kunstenaar en filmmaker, gebaseerd in België. Vaikla’s artistieke onderzoek richt zich op de relatie tussen architectuur en haar gebruikers, en de representatie van architectuur in fotografie, video en film. Alicja Melzacka (Poland, 1993) is a graduate of the Curatorial Studies programme at KASK, Ghent (2018). She has a background in art history (University of Gdansk), applied linguistics (University of Gdansk and Technische Universität Braunschweig), and heritage studies (Maastricht University). She is currently working as an independent curator, researcher, and writer and as an associated tutor at the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design. She is one of the members of the artist collective Nowhere, focused on the presentation of contemporary artistic practices through the format of an online magazine.
