La Pergola, an Art Nouveau setting
Built in 1935, this former tea room became La Pergola in 1958 at the time of the Brussels Universal Expo.
Since 2002, the decoration has honoured the glory days of Belgian architecture: The Art Nouveau style can be found in the hand-crafted stained-glass windows, the mosaic tiles, the profusion of wood panelling, the brass hat stands, the hand painted ceramic illustrations etc. The solid wooden bar covered with a single piece of pewter in the shape of an "S" is worth a detour on its own. On a fine day, you can enjoy the pleasant terrace.
In the kitchen, La Pergola chef Alain Neckerbroeck, Maitre cuisinier de Belgique, a Master-cook of Belgium, prepares the great classics among brasserie dishes, Belgian specialities, French cuisine based around fish and meat, some pasta dishes, and well thought out salads. Seasonal suggestions and mussels also add to the menu.
La Pergola opens its doors to passers-by in search of caffeine from 10:00. Around mid-day, it is the businessmen from the neighbouring offices and several generations from the surrounding area who come for a well-deserved break for the approriately named "lunch". Later, between 14:30 and 18:00, it is the ideal place for a late lunch or to fall for a sweet home-made treat. Kitchen open from 12:00 to 14:30 and from 18:00 to 22:30. Unlimited brunch every Sunday from 11:30 to 16:00
