Bruxelles Environnement
86 C Avenue du Port 1000
The architecture of the new Brussels Environment building, next to the historic Royal Warehouse, could not be called inconspicuous. The building had to be passive, given that the Brussels regional institution advocates energy savings on a day-to-day basis, particularly where construction in Brussels is concerned. It therefore unites all the characteristics of a modern, highly energy-efficient building, open to the surrounding green setting and the Tour & Taxis site. Opened in late 2014, the Brussels Environment head office is largely triple-glazed to capture the sun’s light and heat. Its design also includes areas for relaxation and socialising around a south-facing atrium. It is intended to serve as a model in terms of both energy use and integration into the environment.
