And yet it is only ten years ago that the quartet's career really got under way. Today it is recognised as one of the best chamber music ensembles in the world - and has a large number of recordings to prove it. This evening opens with a splendid Mozart quartet, after which we will be plunged into the impressionistic world of Claude Debussy. Three of the four members of the quartet have Russian roots, hence their special affinity with the music of Shostakovich.
