Discover the Marolles of the 16th century on this walking tour... and more specifically this emblematic character of our artistic culture: Bruegel. Pieter Bruegel, who lived in Antwerp, fell in love with the daughter of his master Pieter Coecke van Aelst. To allow the marriage, his future mother-in-law insisted that the couple live in Brussels. After a few months engaged, the couple made their union official in Chapel Church in the Marolles. A witness to a troubled political and religious period, Bruegel was a contemporary of Charles V, his successor Philip the Second, the Duke D’Albe, and would witness the execution of the Counts of Egmont and Hornes.
