It was in 2016 when the relatively unknown Mirga Grainyte-Tyla was appointed music director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, following in the footsteps of Simon Rattle and Andris Nelsons, among others. Today, she is one of the most in-demand conductors. She takes us into the world of Robert Schumann's First Symphony, where the brass sounds triumphantly herald spring. At 50 minutes, Edward Elgar's Violin Concerto is one of the longest in the repertoire. The length certainly does not deter Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang from bringing this concerto to a successful conclusion.
