Don Juan
15 Jan 2020 - 15 Jan 2020
On stage, three actors, a lyric singer and a pianist unpack Don Juan’s fate; he is a character who only exists to grasp what he covets. A subtle construction consisting of the music of Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the libretto by Da Ponte and excerpts from Molière’s play, the show unveils the workings of the beautiful mechanism that is opera through the prism of love.
Tom Goosens immerses himself in the three operas that were the product of Mozart’s collaboration with librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte. For this adaptation, the director has proposed a new theatrical language by distancing himself from the classic form of the opera and in working for the first time with pianist Wouter Deltour. The three productions are in close proximity with the spectator and demonstrate a different way of addressing this repertoire, he keeps only the essential: the modernity of the intrigues imagined by Da Ponte and Mozart’s beautiful melodies.
The KVS and the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles joined forces to present the three panels of this triptych.
