In April, we go back to London. Those who follow us over the years may remember CAN's Greetings from London in 2017. But London, especially so close to Brussels, is one of those cities where everyone wants to go back, so much it changes and renews itself. This time, we have the honour of returning there in the company of Amin Taha, founder of the architecture office GROUPWORK.
Groupwork made headlines - well beyond the strict architectural press - with their project 15 Clerkenwell Close, which we find - in all subjectivity - quite brilliant, threatened with demolition because some neighbours did not want it, to the point where Amin Taha came to be designated "London most polemical architect" at the time. Beyond this strict project, much richer and more interesting than this passionate legal battle, Amin Taha and his team propose a neat and assertive architecture, in a strong relationship between existing and contemporary reinterpretation, with more complex readings than they may appear at first glance. Their projects span all sizes and programs, and are the subject of prestigious nominations and awards, including the RIBA's Stirling Prize and the 2019 EU Mies Award.
