In the early 1970s, feminists were out on the streets, where they breathed new life into old demands by demanding equality for women at home, school and work and in legislation. They also articulated a new view of the body, denounced stereotypes and violence and demanded a fulfilling sex life and the right to birth control. Their young, dynamic militancy prompted them to write, hold gatherings and demonstrations and organise joyous, noisy activities aimed at fostering a solidarity-based, egalitarian society in which everybody can flourish. Their demands and views remain hot topics today, for although undeniable progress has been made, a truly egalitarian society is still a long way off. An exhibition organised by the Archive and Research Centre for Women's History.
