RetrExpo - Espirito Mundo Residencies

RetrExpo brings together in the room 203 of building H, pieces by 6 artists who were residents: Aline Yasmin, Alex Cepile, Fábio Sampaio, Fredone Fone, Maria João Flôxo and Monica Musoni. With a purpose, the retrospective crosses different moments and times, without deriving in a closed chronology in order to show the different artistic languages, sensitivities and issues that move each of the intervenient, privileging the moments of research to understand the resulting processes from the residences. The exhibition walks through the paintings of Fábio Sampaio selected from two moments: SER (TÃO) EU, with unique works produced especially for the exhibition held in the gallery of the Brazilian embassy; and works produced specifically in the course of his residency SER(TÃO) NÓS. A work guided by the observation of Brazilian urban and popular culture in a daily construction of personal maps in search of a poetic and universal language from the northeast of the country. The director of Espirito Mundo, poet and graphic designer, Aline Yasmin, provokes the imaginary with an installation of concrete spatial poetry “Les pensées se baladent lorsque les pieds sont confinés” and invites to a reflection on the condition of existing and being an artist confined. Alex Cepile and Aline Yasmin present the audiovisual project WE EXISTE in trilogy format, held in Brussels during April 2020, in full confinement. In each of the videos, it is possible to observe the subtleties of the world, transporting us to a journey that funnels in a way of questioning about life and existence before a world that closes in on itself. Monochromatic and sound elements highlight the themes in order to provoke subliminal reflection. In HABITE-MOI, Fredone Fone, who essentially works with murals in projects that already travel the world, during his residency he built new processes within the research of using raw materials linked to building, “making a home”, dwelling, residing. NATURES is a series of sculptural pieces that began in 2019 and is still present in the work of Maria João Flôxo. Fragile works that represent an imaginary nature, where textures come to life and become possible mountains, rocks, plains, etc. Landscapes of the unconscious and the lived as a human being, as a nature being. As an artist, she continues “the search for the relationship between human beings and nature, and with their inner light, which is constantly evolving; in a metaphorical and philosophical context ... after all we are Nature! ” From selected pieces from different residences Monica Musoni creates another work focused on its process. (DE) CONSTRUCTION, which is nothing more than an allusion to the critical literary method that goes through a detailed examination of the text in order to demonstrate that there is no unique meaning, but that it can be understood differently by each one. From here, we assist a questioning of her own method and the various possibilities that resulted from her research and that are not always linear, not always programmed, in a reflection about the different moments of the creative process. On Sunday, 20, / 09 from 18h, in the Collectif KomChéTaMère space (Bat H - first floor), it will be possible to watch a set of projections produced from other residences such as Cine Luso Espírito Mundo 2019, by Fredone and of the performances carried out as part of the Tant de Mer, Tanto Mar project. The projections will be attended by some participants and collaborators who will report their respective experiences. The idea is to share the experience of building a multidisciplinary creative process collaboratively. It will also be an opportunity to present the innovative processes of Espirito Mundo residences and to open a dialogue with the audience present, also interested in possible collaborations. With this exhibition, the Espirito Mundo cultural association is reaffirming itself as a project that promotes intercultural multidisciplinary exchange between the various creative and artistic territories.
