Yves Druart is 40 years old and was a photographer and bookseller for 15 years. He originally studied Graphic Arts in Brussels whilst simultaneously studying drawing at the Uccle Academy of Arts.
He only discovered jazz very recently and the fact that he listened on a regular basis aroused a desire in him to draw some of the legendary musicians of the 50s and 60s.
Inspired by documentary films of concerts and interviews from that time, his pastel and charcoal drawings are like stills from films in which the musicians are often not actually playing ...
Perhaps these silent moments represent another aspect of the black and white notes of a score ?
