Bensé @ Botanique

Bensé @ Botanique
Bensé introduces his first "Album" to us, with its delicious pop-folk overtones. It takes a simple and direct approach and has a brightness that illuminates the songs written so skilfully in French.

"I wanted to show that it is possible to recreate the same atmosphere as records performed in English, but drawing on the riches of the French language," says Bensé. And he does precisely that. Here and there he tips his hat to some contemporary artistes that he feels close to, such as Vetiver, which features Devendra Banhart, or British songwriter Ed Harcourt. "Album" includes two duets: "Petite", in which Rose sings opposite him, and "Dans ma soucoupe", with lyrics by Jacques Lanzmann, to which Tété gives his unique imprint. Co-produced by sound engineer Yann Arnaud (Air, Syd Matters, Camille), the disc was made very much in an "at home" atmosphere with the band of mates who have been Bensé's musical family for years. "Basically they were live takes so that we could get as close as possible to the sounds we like: Bob Dylan & The Band, Cat Stevens, Springsteen?s Nebraska, Neil Young and Nino Ferrer."
