Cyclo-cross World Championship
Koksijde and its localities Oostduinkerke, Sint-Idesbald and Wulpen are gearing up for the World Championships. The people attending will be able to enjoy an exciting programme of side-events to ensure the World Cyclo-cross Championships offer a truly festive occasion.

Having said that, there is lots more to see and do, throughout the year! The municipality hosting the World Cyclo-cross Championships 2012 boasts extensive nature areas, a real paradise for people keen on walking! The countless places of cultural interest and the outstanding events help to ensure that each visit to Koksijde is an unforgettable experience! Cyclo-cross is a discipline run on 2.5 to 3.5 circuits, including clearings, roads, country lanes and paths through forests. The riders have to do several laps of the circuit over a period of no more than an hour. To make their way along steep paths, muddy tracks and artificial obstacles, sometimes the riders even have to carry their bikes. This discipline, which is splendid in itself, is at the same time an unbeatable school of cycling, where you have to combine riding technique, courage and the peak of physical fitness. Technical back up is allowed, which is one of the main differences with mountain bike disciplines.
