Theatre, performance & dance - Where does the East begin? In the Eastern Cantons? In Germany? For the Germans it begins in Poland. For the Poles in Russia. And do the inhabitants of Kazakhstan consider Moscow to be in the West? No one lives in the East, that is where the others live.
What do they have in common, all these places that appear to us to be in the East? They are foreign; foreign and unknown.
The idea behind East of Brussels is to bring these unknown but no less exciting things to Brussels in the form of several performances. Because they were created ‘in the East’, but most of all because they are good and take an individual approach to history (ART&SHOCK), architecture (Deufert+Plischke) and tradition (Les SlovaKs, Eszter Salamon), or look at the void that arises after all revolutions (Gabia).
