Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition 04 mai 2009
Following the piano in 2007 and the singing in 2008, it is now the violin turn of to be given place of honour in the magnificent halls of the Conservatoire de Musique of Brussels. This 15th edition of the Competition to be devoted to Queen Elisabeth’s favourite instrument will allow us to discover a new generation of young violinists...

One of the most highly-rated tests in world music circles, every year the competition brings together thousands of expert music-lovers in search of impeccable aural sensations. It should be said that the participants are already established as young talents ready to soar on the international scene. As for the audience, it never hesitates to stand and applaud wholeheartedly when a performance has its unanimous approval. Eighty three candidates appeared at preselection tests but only 68 of them will participate at competition public sessions. We count among them two Belgians, Lorenzo Gatto and Jolente De Maeyer. The Competition has begun on Monday 4th May with first degree eliminations. These take place in the Brussels Academy and will end on Saturday 9th May with the proclamation of 24 semifinalists. The semi-finals also take place in the Academy of Brussels. These 24 violinists will play the concerto of Mozart with the Royal Orchestra of Wallonian Chamber and Paul Goodwin and will take place from 11 to 16 May, the date of the proclamation of 12 finalists. The finales will take place from 25 to 30 May to the Brussels Fine Art Palace under the impulse of Gilbert Varga and the Belgium National Orchestra which will accompany the finalists.
