World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
29 Sep 2013 - 05 Oct 2013

At the 2013 Championships, individual events will be the priority. After qualifications, the 24 best gymnasts will participate in the finals for the general competition while the finals for the individual events will be reserved for the top 8 in each event. To make sure there are a variety of nationalities in the finals, only two athletes from each country can qualify for one of the 12 finals.
A Brussels native at the World Championships
Though he moved to Ghent in order to pursue his career in gymnastics, Jimmy Verbaeys, Uccle native, got started in Brussels. So be it Ghent, Brussels or Antwerp, this will be a world championship at home for him! He came in 21st place in the general competition at the London Games and will soon compete in Antwerp only a couple days after his 20th birthday. Given his youth, he still has a long career ahead of him, a career that will include Rio in 2016.
Program
The location is set for Sportpaleis. Monday to Wednesday is the qualifiers, and Thursday to Sunday is the finals. Women will compete along 4 events: vault, uneven bars, beam and floor, while men will compete in six: floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar. The best gymnasts in the world will aspire for some 36 medals in Antwerp.
