It might be the hire of a ceremonial garment to add the essential style to a special occasion, or the purchase of ‘the’ two-piece or three-piece suit that will last the lifetime of its owner, sometimes even longer.
“It’s not unusual for us to have a client who asks us to alter a suit that had belonged to his grandfather” explains with well-deserved pride Albert Van Geluwe, the young marketing director who bears, not by chance, the name of his great-grandfather, founder of the business which at the time was situated in Rue Royale. That was in 1928. Sixty years later, his parents Sylvie and Bernard took up the reins of the business. Rose & Van Geluwe found a new home worthy of its history and tradition, on the Boulevard Saint-Michel, 50m from the Montgomery roundabout. A sumptuous “maison de maître” whose spacious floors house the clothing collections and the workshops, together with the period furniture of oval windows and mahogany, as well-preserved as the suits and accessories that have come out of the business since the time of the painters Constant Permeke, Rik Wouters and James Ensor, just some of the many famous customers!
Precision makes all the difference.
At Rose & Van Geluwe, timeless elegance is expressed in the superlative, as the business is proud to proclaim. Their supplies come from the top specialists, right down to the last accessory (such as the famous Crockett & Jones shoes). The difference is in the precision of work. Never will you find a trouser leg too short or a sleeve too long: suits, jackets, shirts, trousers… everything is tailored in-house and adjusted to perfection. As for the ladies, it is the preserve of Sylvie Van Geluwe to help them find the perfect outfit; she is the guarantor of the house philosophy that allies elegance and tradition. With or without that little touch of extravagance that is also found in the “gentlemen’s sport” department, and which brings some pleasant surprises to the ground floor.
For a successful special occasion
Garments for that special day are prepared with the same care and attention, with a choice of traditional models such as morning coats, dinner suits, plus… all the rest. From Tuesday to Saturday, our hire service is open without appointment and can find the right model for all the family, including children from 4 years of age. The clothes are fitted, adjusted and re-adjusted as necessary, until the customer and the garment become as one.
New: Home Service
Rose & Van Geluwe does not offer an “internet order” service. “Tailoring is a skill that can in no way be approximate” as Albert Van Geluwe comments. However, a home service, or place-of-work service, is now available to customers. Our experts can come to you, bringing fabric samples and all the measuring equipment necessary to the preparation of your perfect garment.
