In the face of the dominant cinema but not against it, the festival international du film indépendant promises more than ever to be placed under the sign of discovery. The aim is still above all to allow directors who don't fit the classical ways of visual media to express themselves. As such, the festival constitutes the perfect showcase for independent film-makers, whose seething creation is expressed in such a spontaneous way that they have little chance to find their way in the existing distribution networks.
As a whole, the Festival du Film Indépendant shows 100 films or videos, originating from 60 different countries, among which many European or world premières and many special programmes. It is also a wonderful space of discovery for all young film-makers. A unique forum for new medias, the festival 2009 looks more than ever like a plural event.
Over the years, the festival has become the ideal venue for independent film-makers from all horizons. Born in 1974 from the Super8 movement, it has become open to all formats and has mainly confirmed its international vocation.
Through these mutations, the original philosophy has remained the same: to allow all film-makers that don't fit the classical canvas of visual medias to find a place of expression. The festival is a unique springboard for all young film-makers and a formidable meeting point between directors, producers, distributors, technicians, writers, medias and audience.
