Felix Gonzalez-Torres @ Wiels
Wiels is proud to present a major retrospective of the work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres. Works rarely seen and some more familiar will form the exhibition.
Gonzalez-Torres, one of the most influential artists of his generation, moved to New York in the early 80s where he studied art and began his career as an artist. His work is based on conceptual art and minimalism, mixing political activism, emotional affect, through the media, including drawings, sculptures and public notice boards. He often used everyday objects (clocks, mirrors, lamps ...) as a starting point. Among his best known works: piles of candy and posters inviting the public to take a piece of work. They are based on notions of instability and potential for change: works without specific form or programmed.A retrospective of the artist puts in his work inside the fragility, the passage of time and the questioning of authority will be fully re-installed in half the time in each place for exhibition by an artist whose work was influenced by Felix Gonzalez-Torres.
