Cave du Roy (La)

The décor is a magnificent cellar, from the Hermitage house built in 1698 on Brussels' Grand Place, on the ruins due to the bombing of Brussels by Louis the 14th. Nicely arched, with subdued lights and decorated with old etchings of the capital, this spot has housed, for over a century, a restaurant.

Since 1903, in fact, a chip shop had been installed there. The market gardeners and the townspeople that went to the grand market (isn't it said " Grote Markt " in Dutch?) took great delight in eating mussels and chips. Today, one can discover, as well, typical Belgian specialties there: shrimps croquettes, scampi fried with Bière Blanche and the inevitable stoemp. The Hoeilaert carbonade, the hilarious waterzooie and the magret of duck Kriek fashion, without forgetting mussels served in various ways, nor the Brussels waffles, nor the flambéed upside down apple tart (tarte Tatin) as dessert! We won't linger on the special beers à la carte (with three made by Trappist monks - very strong). And thus we come to the understanding that this restaurant is another string to the Belgo-Belgian bow. And, especially because it is so well established. And here, the street is the most beautiful theater of the world! In fact, a 30 seats terrace allows one to treat oneself on two counts: the palate and the eyes. We would not be able to bring to a close this fond outline without conjuring up the various menus: the Brussels menu, the Brueghel menu, the Charles-Quint menu, the business menu, which fit all the purses! And then, also, at your request the company organizes conferences and banquets with free music shows, thrown in. Lively mood is on!
